The 71st International Congress of Aviation and Space Medicine (ICASM) took place in Singapore from 27th to 30th October 2025. As the flagship congress of the International Academy of Aviation and Space Medicine (IAASM), this 4-day event saw a record turnout of 640 registered participants, including conference delegates, sponsors, exhibitors and accompanying persons.
The Guest of Honor (GOH) was Ms Sun Xueling (Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Transport and Senior Minister of State, Ministry of National Development of Singapore).

With a forward-looking theme “Soaring Towards New Horizons in Aviation and Space Medicine”, the scientific programme started with the highly anticipated André Allard Memorial Lecture for 2025. Entitled “Defining the Future of Global Systems Governing Health and Wellbeing of Populations: Amidst the Revolution in Aviation and Space Travel”, it was a riveting lecture delivered by Professor Teo Yik Ying (Dean, Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health).

The Ernsting Panel that ensued covered “New Paradigms and Approaches in Aviation Mental Health”, with presentations from ICAO and regulators from around the world. Professor Vernon Lee (Chief Executive Officer, Communicable Disease Agency of Singapore) delivered the ICASM 2025 Plenary Lecture, highlighting the opportunities for the aviation industry in combating future infectious disease pandemics.

The second day of the congress saw an effervescent Women in Aviation Panel which highlighted the many challenges and opportunities for women pursuing careers in the aviation sector.

The congress was packed with a total of 133 oral and poster presentations covering a diverse range of topics, from space medicine to aviation cardiology, aviation ophthalmology, aviation psychiatry and psychology, civil and military aviation medicine, crash dynamics and many more.
In addition to a rich scientific programme, congress delegates had the unique opportunity to embark on one of 4 technical visits planned: Singapore Airline Training Centre, Changi Airport, MITRE Asia Pacific Singapore and the Singapore Changi Aeromedical Centre. These exclusive technical visits allowed delegates to have a behind-the-scene peek into Singapore’s diverse aviation landscape.

True to tradition, the congress in Singapore also saw a fun-filled social programme for all delegates and spouses. Participants who attended the Congress Welcome Reception on the first day witnessed the lively Lion Dance (traditional celebratory dance) while enjoying drinks and canapes.

The second night saw the Academicians' Dinner hosted at the historic Raffles Hotel Singapore. The Congress Gala Dinner was conducted on the third night and set the stage for an electrifying atmosphere with live music throughout the evening.

Accompanying persons at the congress were able to embark on several sightseeing tours which included cultural tours to Chinatown and Little India, entry into the Gardens by the Bay as well as the Singapore Botanic Gardens, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The 71st ICASM in Singapore was truly a memorable event for all who attended, and what a way to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee (70th year anniversary) of the Academy!
